There are few exceptions to the norms of high school and college football recruiting, and Trent Seaborn is the shinning example of being different in all the right ways. As an eighth grader, Seaborn took on 7A Alabama defenses during the 2022 season with Thompson High School (Alabaster) wowing all in the process. As a result, college teams have not wasted time dropping 13 offers on Seaborn’s doorstep.
The list of offering schools includes Oregon, Wisconsin, Arkansas, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Nebraska, and Maryland, and more interest is developing.
“I have been developing relationships with Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee, those are the main schools,” Seaborn said. “I also have relationships with the schools that have offered.”
Seaborn continued, “I keep in touch with coach (Phil) Longo (OC/QB) at Wisconsin, coach (Chip) Lindsey (OC/QB) at North Carolina, and I am in touch with coaches at Oregon. At Ole Miss, I am in touch with coach (Michael) Nysewander (SA), coach (Max) Thurmond (SOA), and coach (Shaun) Aguano (RB) at Arizona State.”
Tennessee got Seaborn on campus during Thompson’s spring break.
“It was really great experience,” Seaborn shared. “I got to tour the facilities, watch practice, and met with coach Hype (Josh Heupel) and coach (Joey) Halzle (OC/QB). I also talked with Nico (Iamaleava), I am good friends with him, and I talked with Joe Milton.”
The next trip out of Alabama may be into Big Ten territory for the rising talent.
“I plan on going to Wisconsin hopefully sometime in May, but we have not secured that date yet,” Seaborn stated.
Seaborn shared his interest in the Badgers that could turn into a visit, “I’m really excited to go up to Wisconsin. I have developed a great relationship with coach Longo. He has come to Alabama a couple of times; I’ve seen him in person. He’s a great guy. I am excited to see him there. He and coach (Luke) Fickell are really turning that place around.”
Over the summer months, more teams in the Southeast may get to see Seaborn in action.
“I’m trying to hit Alabama, Auburn, and camps around the area,” Seaborn said.
ON THE FIELD
During the 2022 season, Seaborn split snaps with 2024 quarterback Zach Sims. In stats posted through 10 games, Seaborn completed .705 percent of his attempts covering 1,177 yards with 15 touchdowns against just three picks – all team highs.
Seaborn spoke about the Warriors’ offensive play style, “We run a spread offense with four receivers and one running back. Sometimes we go into tight end personnel, 11-man, but we mostly run a spread, an Air Raid with a lot of RPOs (run-pass option).”
The offseason grind is all about getting better. Seaborn detailed his focus this spring.
“I have been trying to put on a lot of weight,” Seaborn said. “I am trying to get stronger, faster, and bigger; that has been my main goal. I am transitioning into the spring developing better chemistry with my receivers.”
The hard work for Seaborn is already paying off.
“I am seeing a lot of improvement in my arm strength,” Seaborn shared. “I am throwing it further than last offseason and I am better at reading defenses. During our after-school practices, I am really reading our defense well. We have a great defense with a lot of athletes. Our defensive coordinator is a smart guy; he really helps the IQ part to my game.”
