Line him up with a hand in the ground, split out as an inside receiver, or out of the backfield in an H-back role, Alex Menghi provides high caliber options. Working against New York competition during the 2022 season, Menghi (6-4, 215) proved to be that versatile piece that kept defenses on their heels for St. Anthony’s High School (Melville). With key seniors graduating off the Friars’ roster, Menghi steps into a featured role heading into his senior season.

The junior campaign for Menghi set the foundation. With 20 targets, Menghi hauled in 20 passes covering 267 yards with one touchdown. The role this fall will expand.

“I played a little bit of defense last year; there’s a sack on my film,” Menghi said. “I will play more defense this year. Our defense was mainly seniors last year. On special teams, I am all over the place. On offense, I’m at tight end, but I might be split out more. I was in the box a lot, but I may be all over the place this year.”

Because of Menghi, the Friars’ offense is wide open.

“We run everything,” Menghi stated. “The past two years we ran more of a Spread, but once I got there, we became more balanced with 11- and 10-personnel. We’ve been all over the place because we can do everything now with a tight end. It is not as easy to find a tight end.”

Improving upon his every-down skills has been the focus this offseason.

“Really, I have been working on everything,” Menghi shared. “I like to improve all aspects of my game. This offseason I have been working on getting stronger, strength is big in the game, and being more fluid with my routes. I have also been working on my blocking technique. You can’t train that as much, that comes with practice.”

Holding offers from Georgetown, Columbia, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Stony Brook, more teams are scouting the four-star.

“I have been talking to Syracuse, Temple, UConn, Holy Cross, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire,” Menghi said.

The incoming attention has had Menghi going out to campuses.

“I have been all over this year,” Menghi stated. “I have been to Syracuse, Temple, Holy Cross, UPenn, Fordham, Villanova, and Long Island University.”

The in-state visit with the Orange was covered.

“It was good,” Menghi shared. “I talked to coach Nunzio (Campanile – TE) a lot. It was a good overall trip. We will see what happens from here.”

The time with the Crusaders in Worcester is prompting a return visit.

“It was good,” Menghi said. “I am going up there again in a week or two; on June 13 I believe. We’ll see what happens. For me, it seems very positive, and we are on the right track.”

While at Holy Cross, Menghi will workout with the Crusaders packed with a visit. The rest of the summer plans were provided.

“I am planning a trip to Maine to visit their campus and to Stony Brook,” Menghi stated. “I am going to camps at Temple and maybe UConn. I have private workouts with Holy Cross and Bucknell.”
