SIZE:
Derek has excellent size for a 2024 Dual Threat QB at 6’3” 220 lbs. Plays well above the level of competition. He throws with a tall platform in the backfield, able to survey the entire field. A strong running QB with excellent lower body strength and speed.
ACCURACY:
His throws are in-line with his receivers with tight rotation of the ball. Shows good timing and anticipation of receivers pass routes. Excellent ball location.
ARM STRENGTH:
A strong throwing QB who can reach all areas of the field. High velocity throws made at the short and intermediate range.
RELEASE:
Throws with a tall platform. An over the top delivery with full extension. Solid footwork prior to setup.
THROW ON RUN:
Very quick on his feet, while displaying his athleticism on the field. Gets to the outside in a hurry, able to lock down on his target, while delivering a strike.
FOOTWORK:
This QB can turn it up while on the run. Excellent speed and quickness out in the open field. Breakaway speed able to create separation. A strong running QB, who’s difficult to take down.
POISE:
He shows confidence in his abilities as a QB, very comfortable in the pocket. But he's also a pure athlete, able to do just about anything asked of him.
POCKET PRESENCE:
Derek does a nice job picking up defensive pressure, while moving away from pressure.
DECISION MAKING:
Shows good intelligence on the field able to think quickly while on the go.
TOUCH:
He’s a strong throwing QB who throws with good trajectory on deep passes but can add a softer touch on his short and intermediate routes.
